Itinerary
DAY 01: ARRIVE IN MENDOZA
Arrive in the vibrant city of Mendoza, the gateway to your Aconcagua adventure. After settling into your accommodation, take the opportunity to explore the local culture and cuisine. Mendoza is renowned for its wines, so consider a leisurely evening with a wine tasting session to unwind before the trek begins.
DAY 02: MENDOZA TO PUENTE DEL INCA
Today you journey from Mendoza to Puente del Inca, an ancient natural bridge that is also a historical site. The drive offers picturesque views of the Andes Mountains. Upon arrival, you’ll have time to explore this unique area, known for its colorful geological formations and thermal springs.
DAY 03: PUENTE DEL INCA TO CONFLUENCIA
Your first trekking day begins with a moderate hike to Confluencia, the first major campsite en route to Aconcagua. This initial trek allows you to slowly acclimate to the increasing altitude and introduces you to the rugged beauty of the Andes. Spend your evening discussing trekking strategies with your guides and fellow trekkers.
DAY 04: ACCLIMATIZATION TREK TO PLAZA FRANCIA
Today involves an important acclimatization hike to Plaza Francia, located at the base of the South Face of Aconcagua, offering close-up views of the imposing wall. This trek is crucial for your body to adapt to higher altitudes. You’ll return to Confluencia to spend another night, which aids in acclimatization.
DAY 05: CONFLUENCIA TO PLAZA DE MULAS
Trek from Confluencia to Plaza de Mulas, the main base camp for the Normal Route. This longer and more demanding hike takes you through diverse landscapes, including vast scree fields and rugged mountain paths. Plaza de Mulas serves as a crucial hub for climbers and offers a chance to rest and prepare for the ascent.
DAY 06: REST DAY AT PLAZA DE MULAS
Take a rest day at Plaza de Mulas to further acclimate. Utilize this time for light walks around the camp or engage in discussions on high-altitude health and safety with your guides. This is also an opportunity to check your equipment and prepare mentally for the upcoming climb.
DAY 07: HIKE TO CAMP 1
Engage in a carry day to Camp 1, also known as Canada Camp. You’ll transport part of your gear up to stash at the camp and then descend back to Plaza de Mulas. This process is essential for acclimatization and reduces the load for the actual move day.
DAY 08: REST DAY AT PLAZA DE MULAS
Spend another day resting at Plaza de Mulas. Participate in light activities like yoga or meditation to keep relaxed and maintain focus. Proper rest is key to handling the more strenuous days ahead effectively.
DAY 09: MOVE FROM BASE CAMP TO CAMP 1
Today, you’ll move from Plaza de Mulas to Camp 1. This move involves navigating more challenging terrains and adjusting to a significant altitude increase. Settle in at Camp 1 and prepare for the next phase of your climb.
DAY 10: MOVE TO CAMP 2
Ascend from Camp 1 to Camp 2, known as Nido de Condores. This segment offers expansive views of the surrounding Andes and poses increased physical and mental challenges due to the altitude.
DAY 11: ACCLIMATIZATION DAY AT CAMP 2
An acclimatization day at Camp 2 allows your body to adapt to the altitude. Engage in short walks and breathing exercises, and stay hydrated to help mitigate altitude sickness.
DAY 12: MOVE FROM CAMP 2 TO CAMP 3
Climb from Camp 2 to Camp 3, also known as Berlin Camp. This high-altitude camp is situated just below the Polish Glacier and serves as your final stop before the summit attempt.
DAY 13: SUMMIT DAY
Your summit day begins in the early hours before dawn, under the stars, as you embark on the most demanding and rewarding phase of your expedition. After a quick breakfast at Camp 3, you’ll start the ascent toward the summit of Aconcagua. The climb from Camp 3 to the summit is rigorous and steep, often requiring the use of fixed ropes and crampons to navigate icy patches and potential crevasses.
As the sun rises, you’ll witness breathtaking vistas of the Andes stretching out in all directions—scenes that become more inspiring with each meter gained. The final push to the summit is a true test of willpower and stamina, involving traversing the famed Canaleta, a steep couloir that leads directly to the summit ridge. The physical challenge is immense, and teamwork becomes crucial as you and your fellow climbers support each other.
Reaching the summit, 6962 meters above sea level, is an overwhelming experience, with emotions running high as you stand at the highest point in the Western Hemisphere. You’ll have time to take in the panoramic views, capture photos, and celebrate the accomplishment with your team. After a brief period at the summit, where you can reflect on your journey, you begin the careful descent back to Camp 3.
DAYS 14 AND 15: SPARE DAYS IN CASE OF BAD WEATHER CONDITIONS.
These days are reserved as contingency for bad weather. If the summit was reached on schedule, use this time to begin your descent or relax at the higher camps.
DAY 16: RETURN TO BASE CAMP
Descend from the high camps back to Plaza de Mulas. This return journey allows you to reflect on your achievements and enjoy the stunning mountain scenery one last time.
DAY 17: RETURN FROM BASE CAMP TO PUENTE DEL INCA AND BACK TO MENDOZA.
Trek back to Puente del Inca from Plaza de Mulas, then travel back to Mendoza. Celebrate your successful expedition with a final night in the city, enjoying the comforts and cuisine of Mendoza.
