Uganda Gorilla & Chimpanzee Adventure

Upon your arrival at Entebbe International Airport, a dedicated Summit Expeditions representative will warmly welcome you. Our Uganda journey then begins with a transfer to Kibale Forest National Park, known for its primate population and diverse biodiversity.

After arriving at the park and checking into our lodge, we will enjoy a traditional Ugandan meal, an introduction to the culinary wonders of this vibrant nation.

Awaken to a fresh day and savor a hearty breakfast that fuels our upcoming adventure. At the park, we will gather for a briefing, where we’ll be instructed on the dos and don’ts of the upcoming primate encounter.

Next, we’ll be introduced to a seasoned game ranger, our guide for the day’s rainforest exploration. We’ll venture into the park in search of these remarkable chimpanzees. Once in their presence, time seems to stand still as we’re granted a precious four hours to observe and immerse ourselves in their world. Witnessing their daily rituals – from playful antics to feeding moments – all while capturing photographs and videos that will etch these memories into our hearts.

As the afternoon sun gently wanes, we will return to the lodge for well-deserved refreshments, allowing ourselves to unwind and reflect on the day’s extraordinary encounters.

We begin our day with a sunrise game drive that immerses us in the heart of Uganda’s wildlife haven. Awaiting us are the sprawling savannas and diverse ecosystems of Queen Elizabeth National Park.

With an experienced guide at the helm, we set off on an exhilarating game drive. We’ll keep our cameras ready to capture sightings of lions lazing in the grass, graceful giraffes nibbling at treetops, and herds of elephants making their stately progress across the horizon. The park’s vibrant birdlife will also delight us as they flutter and soar above.

Following our game drive, let’s prepare to transition to a leisurely boat safari along the Kazinga Channel. Drifting peacefully on the water, the verdant banks on either side serve as a backdrop for an entirely new cast of characters. We’ll watch in awe as hippos wallow in the shallows, crocodiles sunbathe on the banks, and elephants take their refreshing dips. 

Our day begins with an early departure as we transfer to Kisoro. As we traverse the rolling hills and lush valleys, we capture the beauty of Uganda’s countryside through our window.

Upon arrival in the serene town of Kisoro, nestled near the borders of Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, we take a leisurely stroll through Kisoro’s bustling market. Engaging with the welcoming locals, exploring handmade crafts, and immersing ourselves in the town’s vibrant ambiance.

Today we take on the challenging but rewarding hike of Mount Sabyinyo. This extinct volcano, nestled within the Virunga Mountain Range, is shared by Uganda, Rwanda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo – we will hike through all three countries today!

Embarking on our ascent, we gradually make our way through the bamboo forests and lush vegetation. Reaching the first summit offers a moment of respite to catch our breath and relish the expansive vistas that unfold before us. The trail then leads us onward and the high-altitude environment showcases a diverse array of flora and fauna, adding to the enchantment of the experience. A well-deserved lunch halfway to the summit allows us time to refuel and soak in the astounding scenery.

As the day progresses, we tackle the final ascent to the summit of Mount Sabyinyo, which sits at 3,669m altitude. The terrain becomes steeper, demanding our determination and focus. Arriving at the peak, the accomplishment is matched only by the sweeping views of the Virunga Range and its breathtaking surroundings. 

The descent brings a chance to reflect on the incredible journey, our triumph over challenges, and the natural wonders we’ve witnessed. Upon returning to the trailhead, we will transfer back to the lodge, where we can spend the evening recounting the day’s exploits and marveling at the feat we’ve achieved.

We greet the dawn with anticipation and relish a hearty breakfast at the lodge, energizing us for the extraordinary day ahead. Our journey commences with a drive to the park headquarters, a place where dreams of encountering gorillas transform into reality. Immerse ourselves in the registration process, followed by an insightful briefing that acquaints us with the nuances of the gorilla trekking experience.

As the sun ascends, we venture into the heart of the park’s rainforests, a realm where every step is a brushstroke on the canvas of discovery. Our senses come alive, attuned to the subtlest rustles and echoes that may lead us to these awe-inspiring creatures. Upon finding them, a profound connection ensues, as we are granted the privilege of sharing an entire hour in their presence. Witness their vibrant lives unfold before our eyes – playful antics, nurturing moments, and the gentle rhythm of feeding. Every glance, every movement becomes a memory to be cherished.

The day’s adventure crescendos as we return to the park’s starting point, where the coveted gorilla trekking certificates are bestowed upon us, tangible tokens of this extraordinary encounter. With hearts full and spirits soaring, we embark on a journey that takes us to the tranquil shores of Lake Bunyonyi. Here, amidst the serenity of the lake’s embrace, we’ll find a sanctuary that beckons us to unwind, reflect, and carry the essence of this remarkable day with us.

We kickstart our day with a visit to the serene shores of Lake Bunyonyi, immersing ourselves in the tranquility of this breathtaking setting.

Venturing into the heart of the area, we engage in a morning village visit that connects us with the local community. This enriching experience offers insights into their traditional lifestyle, from crafts and farming techniques to their daily routines. 

As the sun climbs higher, we embark on a trail hike that guides us through the lush landscapes encircling Lake Bunyonyi.

With our morning adventures behind us, we embark on a picturesque journey to Lake Mburo National Park. Along the way, we catch glimpses of Uganda’s varied landscapes and the vibrant rural communities that dot the countryside.

As we arrive at Lake Mburo National Park in the afternoon, a unique blend of savannas, rolling hills, and tranquil water bodies await our exploration. 

Before we say goodbye to Uganda, we have a full day of adventure beginning with a captivating game drive safari in Lake Mburo National Park. With the guidance of our knowledgeable guide, venture into the heart of the park, encountering diverse wildlife in its natural habitat. Zebras, impalas, buffaloes, and perhaps even the elusive leopards may grace our path as we explore the savanna landscape.

In the afternoon, we drive to Entebbe Airport for your evening flight, but not before we embrace the chance to make a memorable stop at the Equator, providing an opportunity for photos and some lunch

Finally we will arrive at Entebbe International Airport, where we will say goodbye. . . at least until the next expedition!
