Summit day begins long before dawn approximately 3-4am to take full advantage of the clear morning conditions typical at higher altitudes. Departing from the eco-hotel Leaprus, we will board a snowcat which will transport you to a height of between 4,700-5,000 meters. This strategic start saves significant energy and time, providing a critical advantage as you face the final ascent to the summit of Mount Elbrus.
Climbing Elbrus, the highest peak in Europe, presents a formidable challenge yet is achievable with steady, paced effort. The climb from the snowcat drop-off to the summit will take approximately 7-9 hours, depending on the group’s pace and weather conditions. As the sun rises, you’ll witness the vast Caucasus range unfold around you, offering spectacular views and a sense of isolation from the bustling world below.
Reaching the summit is an exhilarating experience, with time to celebrate your accomplishment, take photographs, and enjoy brief moments at the highest point of Europe. After the summit, the descent begins, retracing your steps down to the snowcat waiting point.
The descent is usually faster but requires caution as the slopes can be slippery and fatiguing. Back at the eco-hotel Leaprus, we will the pack and return to the cable car and back down to the hotel.

FAQs
1. How hard is it to climb Mount Elbrus?
Mt Elbrus is a great mountain to transition from trekking to mountaineering. Although it is not a technical peak, summit day does require that you learn to use an ice axe, walk in a rope team, wear a harness and walk in crampons. For that reason it is a great introduction to true mountaineering, whilst also being a ‘nice’ peak, that is relatively well supported and safe.
2. Do I need prior climbing experience to climb Mount Elbrus?
No technical experience is required. Included in your package is a full training day on the mountain where you learn all the skills required.
3. How long does a Mount Elbrus expedition take?
The expedition usually takes 8 days, giving you time to acclimatize, train, and reach the summit safely.
4. When is the best time to climb Mount Elbrus?
The best months are July, August and September, when the weather is generally stable and snow conditions are ideal.
5. What equipment is needed to climb Mount Elbrus?
You need warm clothing, mountaineering boots – double boots, crampons, and basic climbing gear. A full gear list is provided, and some items can be rented locally.

Altitude and weather are the main challenges. Guides carefully pace the climb, monitor acclimatization, and prioritize safety throughout the expedition.
